Empowering our members to deliver exceptional patient care.

Our Vision

The Department of Family and Community Practice will become a community of excellence in coordinated, equitable, and whole-person care. We will lead meaningful initiatives that reduce barriers to care, and foster a culture of belonging, professional growth, and joy in practice. Members will be supported and celebrated as contributors to health system improvement, with active roles in education, quality improvement, and research.

Our Values

Divisions & Programs

The Vancouver Department of Family & Community Practice comprises three acute (in-patient) divisions and ten community (out-patient) programs.

Each includes physicians working under a program lead.  Their activities are frequently cross-disciplinary and collaborative to support patients across the spectrum of their journey within the medical system.

Committees

The Department of Family and Community Practice is supported by three standing committees that guide its educational, physician wellness, and strategic direction. Together, they ensure members have access to ongoing learning, meaningful support for their wellbeing, and a voice in departmental decision-making.

Continuing Medical Education Committee
The CME Committee organizes and delivers the Department’s weekly educational rounds, ensuring members have consistent access to high-quality, relevant continuing medical education.

Conference Planning Committee
The Conference Planning Committee coordinates the two annual conferences the Department hosts: the Annual Family Practice Review and the Western Hospitalist Conference, including setting topics and themes, speaker selection and logistics (with the support of UBC Continuing Professional Development).

Wellness Committee
The Wellness Committee supports member wellbeing through the annual department social and other events held throughout the year, alongside providing supports to identify, understand and address physician burnout.

Executive Committee
Comprising division heads and departmental leaders, the Executive Committee meets regularly to discuss proposed changes and set the strategic direction of the Department.
